'It's detrimental to coaches' - Truter lashes out at controversial Swallows goal

A frustrated Brandon Truter lashed out at the officials after Moroka Swallows secured a 2-1 win over his Sekhukhune United side after scoring a controversial winner by saying such decisions were "detrimental to the game and to coaches".

The scores were tied at 1-1 deep into stoppage time when Sekhukhune United goalkeeper Badra Sangare collected a cross before being pushed across his goal-line by Gabadinho Mhango with the referee then awarding a goal.

The decision sparked angry scenes on the sidelines as both benches were involved in a heated exchange as infuriated Sekhukhune players and staff demonstrated at the fourth official.

"A clear push on my goalkeeper and the linesman gives a goal," Truter said post-match.

"I've seen in Europe after the Manchester United and Wolves game that the officials got punished by being taken off the refereeing panel.

"It's so early in the season that these mistakes are happening, and we can't allow it.

It's detrimental to the game, it's detrimental to the coaches as well, where you work so hard but then lose three points because of one silly decision.

"I think it was a clear push.

"The referee could have overruled him as well.

"Between the three of them [officials] and even the fourth official, even Steve [Komphela] said he saw it as a clear push.

"So I'm not sure what the linesman saw."

In ugly scenes Sekhukhune officials were seen angrily remonstrating with the officials who had to be escorted from the pitch after the match.

"I wasn't involved, but it got a bit heated on the sideline but it was them [Moroka Swallows bench] asking for the goal and us saying it was a push.

"It got a bit heated at the end but there's nothing you can really do about it and it's a decision that took a point away from us," Truter added.

The win sees Swallows occupy sixth position in the standings on 4 points with Sekhukhune in eighth spot a point behind.
