Ten heroes from Soweto Derby featuring Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates

10. Shaun Bartlett

The former Bafana Bafana striker broke Pirates hearts when he scored in second-half stoppage time to secure a point for Chiefs in a 1-1 draw in 2006/07, heading home Siyabonga Nkosi’s corner kick.

 9. Knowledge Musona

The former Amakhosi striker terrorised the Bucs defence in 2010/11, netting a brace and forcing an own goal scored by Daine Klate. He made life difficult for Bucs captain Lucky Lekgwathi that afternoon.

8. Benni McCarthy

McCarthy, now a coach at Cape Town City, lit up arguably one of the best derbies in PSL history with a first-half brace in a 3-2 victory in 2011/12.

7. David Obua

The Ugandan scored a cracker against the Buccaneers in 2004/05, in the second round match played at FNB Stadium which ended 2-0 to Chiefs. His first-time volley from a Thabo Mooki corner was absolutely spectacular. He also scored with his head in the reverse tie, which Chiefs won 1-0.

6. Thabang Lebese

The late midfielder’s brace secured a 2-1 victory for Amakhosi in the 1998/99 season. He later went on to play for Pirates.

5. Dennis Lota

The man, who was known as 'Chisa Mpama', was a handful for Chiefs defenders. In 1999/00, Lota scored in both league matches against Amakhosi, including the winner in a 1-0 victory in November 1999. He scored again in 2001/02, in a 1-1 draw.

4. Lesley Manyathela

The late Lesley Manyathela terrorised Amakhosi with a brace in 2000/01, as Bucs registered a convincing 3-0 win. He scored again against Amakhosi in December 2002, in a 1-1 draw.

3. Siyabonga Nomvethe

'Bhele', who is still playing, loved scoring against Pirates. He bagged a brace in June 2000 as the sides played to a 2-2 draw. He was on the scoresheet again in a 1-1 draw in 2001/02.

2. Jerry Sikhosana

He always had an interesting battle with Chiefs goalkeeper Brian Baloyi. 'Legs of Thunder' scored in both league games against Chiefs in 1996/97 and was again on the scoresheet in the second round match the following season.

1. Benedict Vilakazi

No one loved playing against Chiefs more than Vilakazi, who grew up supporting Amakhosi. He was a nightmare, scoring four times in league matches against Chiefs. In 2004/05, 'Tso' scored twice against Chiefs, including the late equaliser in the first round league match.
