‘That is what is top of our minds now’

The latest edition of the Soweto Derby has come with Orlando Pirates inspired to change a rare run of disappointing results with their title challenge having lost grip.

Pirates have not won in the last three games – which have included two defeats and one draw – but have to find a way past Kaizer Chiefs in the next.

There is little to question the weight of Saturday’s fixture even with Amakhosi chasing shadows in the lower half of the standings.

"This is a big game in South Africa and one that we are prepared for as players," declares Pirates wingback Bandile Shandu.

"We want to fix our mistakes from the previous games, so we are looking forward to this game and we want to win this one.

"That is what is top of our minds right now.

"The derby is a game in which not much motivation is needed. The occasion motivates you.

"Obviously, as Orlando Pirates, we want to bounce back from previous results.

"We have been working hard to rectify our mistakes from the previous matches, and we are looking forward to the game.

"The derby will be a good game for us, and we are looking forward to it and working hard in terms of getting better as a team.

"I think if we do what the coach wants, the result will take care of itself.

"We are working as a unit like we have always been and in derbies you need to fight as a team and we have shown that before and need to carry on with that," says Shandu.

Kick-off at FNB Stadium is at 15:00.
