Cardoso to get full season equivalent

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso will pull through his first six months at the club having had the mileage of a full season under his belt.

Cardoso has been at Sundowns since December 10, 2024, after being brought in to replace Manqoba Mngqithi.

Mngqithi was in charge of the first 18 games in all competitions this season.

The Portuguese has already taken charge of 27 games across all competitions which have included the Betway Premiership, Nedbank Cup, and the CAF Champions League.

His results board has 18 wins, five draws, and four defeats.

The competitions front has an exit from the Nedbank Cup which came via a controversial refereeing decision.

Then in the league, Sundowns have their destiny in their hands and will need not look over their shoulders if they will all their remaining games for their eighth title in a row.

Crucially, Cardoso has guided The Brazilians into the final of the Champions League, with a two-legged date against Pyramids coming up.

The Champions League was won by Pitso Mosimane in 2016 and has proven elusive for the club since then despite the efforts they have made reaching the semi-finals thrice and quarterfinals on four occasions.

With six to play in the league and the two legs of the Champions League final, Cardoso will reach 35 games by the time he clocks six months at the club on June 10.

Thirty five equates to a full season for many a club in the PSL.

The 52-year-old will hope to have lifted both the domestic league and Champions League by then.

After that, he heads to the FIFA Club World Cup where group matches against Ulsan HD from South Korea on June 17 then Borussia Dortmund four days later before they wrap up Group F against Fluminense.
