The 36-year-old, who spent five years at Naturena, says because the last time the sides met was in 2017/18, this time they were not used to one another's respective strategies.
Despite scoring first, Amakhosi lost 2-1 to Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
"The overall game was a good game, it was a good show for the supporters, it was end-to-end stuff. This is what the Derby is all about," Isaacs tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"Nobody was sitting back waiting for somebody to score to get the reaction out of the other team. I think that it was very nice. I also think that what helped is that in the beginning of the season, there used to be Vodacom Cup, and there used to be a Black Label Cup ... you know what? So the teams got used to each other and it became boring you know. But now there isn't that; it is been a while since they played against each other so that hyped up the game more. There was more excitement.
"Overall I think ja, Chiefs started okay, they played in patches. I also think Pirates did their homework very, very well on Chiefs you know ... where to hurt them and ja, I think Pirates really hurt Chiefs you know. Chiefs also got a couple of chances. I think [Leonardo] Castro's chance ... he should have done better for the player that he is and a lot of people expected him to do better with the chance you know ... that pass, that pass to the keeper. But if they scored that you know we could have had another game, we could be speaking another language here now.
"But overall I think Pirates showed a lot of character going a goal down, missing a penalty and they came back to win the game. I think players of Pirates played with a lot of determination like they always do at Pirates. They play with a lot of determination and aggression. I would really love to see a fit [Lebogang] Manyama, a fit Castro and a fit [Khama] Billiat. So the next game is gonna be very interesting."
The Carling Black Label Cup was suspended this year due to sponsorship interests involving the World Cup in Russia.
