DDC: Chiefs move top with big win

Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 TS Galaxy

Kaizer Chiefs moved to the top of the DStv Diski Challenge table with a dominant 4-1 win over TS Galaxy on Saturday.

The Rockets coached by ex-Chiefs star Bernard Parker took the lead into halftime, but the Glamour Boys bounced back in style with Naledi Hlongwane leading the way through a brace.

Further efforts from Matala Makhubo and Kamogelo Malefo put the Soweto giants in cruise control and all the way to the summit of the table.

SuperSport United 4-0 Stellenbosch FC

Stellenbosch FC  lost a hold of top spot after a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of SuperSport United on Saturday in Atteridgeville.

A comprehensive showing by the Tshwane boys were no match for the Maroons as Mandlenkosi Nkosi struck twice with goals either side of the half.

In-form Siviwe Magidigidi also showed up and netted a brace too through efforts in the first and second stanza and made sure the restart gets off to a flyer.

Marumo Gallants FC 1-2 Golden Arrows

Marumo Gallants FC winless run of form in the campaign continued after Golden Arrows came from behind to land a 2-1 victory in the Free State province.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa got the fast start, but Samukele Mlaba showed up soon thereafter and forced the clash to finish level at the break.

As an even set of affairs loomed following the interval, Abafana Besthende managed to get over the line through none other than Sakhile Mkhize and ensured their winning start to the year.

Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates started the DStv Diski Challenge on a disappointing note after going down 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns out in Atteridgeville on Sunday.

For Masandawana, it's a massive victory which moves them to second spot behind the new leaders Kaizer Chiefs who hammered TS Galaxy 4-1 on Saturday.

Onele Rulwana and Bennet Mokoena got the job for the Brazilians, with Seth Green on target for the Buccaneers whose topsy-turvy season continues and are now eleven points from the top.

Sekhukhune United 0-1 Richards Bay FC

Sekhukhune United remained outside the top eight following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Richards Bay FC in a mid-table encounter.

The Natal Rich Boys didn't take time to get going but intention were made known from the onset as Asimbonge Mdunge netted what turned out to be the winning effort on the day.

Cape Town City 3-2 AmaZulu

Cape Town City moved closer to the pace-setters after staging a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over AmaZulu and furthermore started the year on a high note.

Usuthu, who have had a difficult start to the season, came good towards the end of last year and finished just behind the top eight bracket.

City experienced a strong push at the close of the past year and the same impetus came through once more in the comeback triumph over Usuthu.

Polokwane City 0-0 Chippa United

Polokwane City and Chippa United were unable to unlock one another in a tense bottom-half contest and played out a goalless draw in the Limpopo province.

The difficult campaign haven't subsided on either side, with both sinking further down the quagmire in a dire need of a succession of points to move to clearer waters on the standings.
