Tokelo Rantie in last ditch attempt to revive career

Former Bafana Bafana striker Tokelo Rantie is reportedly garnering interest in his services in the hopes of reviving his playing career.

Since returning from Turkish club Genclerbirligi in January 2018, Rantie has been linked with three clubs Cape Town City, Mamelodi Sundowns and Marumo Gallants.

However, Rantie failed to feature for City and Sundowns while playing 10 matches for Marumo last season while registering one goal.

According to reports, the Bafana Bafana international is now garnering interest in his services from countries such as Mozambique and Ethiopia.

Rantie previously played in Mozambique for Ferroviario de Beira and Clube Desporto de Maxaquene before moving to IFK Hassleholm in Sweden.

He then had another productive spell at Orlando Pirates where he won three trophies before heading off to Swedish club Malmo.

The league in Mozambique – which runs on a full calendar year – is only expected to start next month and his name has been mentioned to several teams there.

Sources say his fitness condition and package are what is of concern considering that he hasn't played competitive football for so long with his demands set to be higher than what most clubs there can afford.

In Ethiopia, his name has also been mentioned but with the better-paying clubs not even offering half of what he was earning in his last contract at Marumo the matter of finances is an issue.

From playing in Sweden, England, and Turkey, Rantie's drop from the top has been so rapid it was never imagined he would have sunk so low by now.

He earned 40 Bafana Bafana caps with his last coming in May 2017 while he was still playing in Turkey.
