South African striker Jaisen Clifford completes Lithuanian switch

Clifford, who was born in Trichardt, Mpumalanga, previously plied his trade for Malta second division outfit Mqabba FC, after coming through the SuperSport United, Bidvest Wits and Stars of Africa youth ranks.

The 21-year-old was initially training with AmaZulu, before attending a trial with Stumbras and landing himself a two-year deal.

"I'm obviously very excited and it's a big chance for me," Clifford tells this website. "I mean the team has a reputation for selling to clubs like Lille in France and Benfica in Portual.

"The coach [Mariano Barreto] is very experienced and has worked for massive clubs. He has coached the Ghana and Ethiopia national sides, so I'm looking forward to learn as much as I can from him."

The versatile attacker, who can also play as a winger, is hoping to make his mark in the Lithuanian top flight as he eyes a call-up to the Bafana Bafana setup in the near future.

"I feel it's a tough league and hopefully I can put my name forward for the national team [Bafana Bafana], and put some of the guys [in the squad] under pressure," he adds.
