Saudi forward Hassab Al-Ali scored the opener for Al Ahli just eight minutes into the match after capitalising on a defensive mix-up, but the home team equalised through Colombian winger Anderson Plata.
Then late into the referee's optional time Ryad Boudebouz converted from the penalty spot to seal all three points for Al Ahli.
With the three points Al Ahli move top of the standings with 55 points overtaking Al Hazm on 54.
Third placed Al Akhdoud have 53 while AL Riyadh (who have played one game more) occupy the last promotion place with 52 points.

There are eight games remaining for Al Ahli who now need 15 points at most to seal promotion.
With promotion evidently in the bag, the chase is on to win the R25 million worth Saudi first division league for Mosimane on his first attempt.
Mosimane has been with Al Ahli Saudi since September last year and has taken the popular club from seventh position into the comforts of a promotion place after 14 wins, five draws, and two defeats from the 21 games that he has overseen.
