The Egyptian giants are said to be seeking experienced reinforcements as they continue their efforts to retain their star player Ahmed Sayed "Zizo".
Zizo is reportedly close to leaving Zamalek, with interest already being mooted from rivals Al Ahly and clubs in the Middle East.
Reports now suggest that Zamalek’s decision-makers have identified Tau as an ideal replacement for Zizo, but a potential deal could hinge on the South African’s salary demands.
According to multiple Egyptian outlets such as Mawlana and Zahraa, Tau is believed to be demanding a salary of $1.4 million (approximately R25 million) per year, which Zamalek is said to consider as too steep.
The report also states that Tau is cautious about joining Zamalek due to his previous association with Al Ahly.
It is further claimed that, although the Bafana Bafana star is open to listening to good offers, he remains willing to continue his career in the Gulf region.
According to Transfermarkt, Tau has recorded four assists in nine games since joining Qatar SC in January.
