Impressively, Philadelphia currently sit second in the 2025 MLS Eastern Conference standings, just two points behind leaders Columbus Crew.
Their 2-1 victory over CF Montreal on Sunday marked their seventh win of the season, with history made in the process.
Now with 22 points from their opening 11 league matches, Carnell has overseen Philadelphia’s best-ever start to an MLS season, according to Philly Sports Network.
Reflecting on the recent win over Montreal, Carnell said: “This is massive, if you could just see the guys and their faces and how relieved they are because they know they put in a big shift tonight.
"To find the quality in the key moments to put them [Montreal] under and when we scored the goal I thought the next 10-12 minutes and how we managed the game – it was fun to watch. Everyone brought in had a specific job to do and we did that excellently, a real team effort tonight."
Notably, fellow South African compatriot Olwethu Makhanya has played a key role under Carnell, featuring in nine of a possible 11 matches so far.
