Incredible scoring numbers for ex-Downs striker

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Nyasha Mushekwi has all but secured promotion to the Chinese Super League at the first time of asking after banging his first hat-trick of the season over the weekend.

Mushekwi smashed three in the 5-0 win over Qingdao Red Lions, which just about secured the important promotion ticket for Yunnan Yukun.

With two teams going up, Yunnan Yukun now enjoy an 11-point lead over third-placed Guangzhou FC with only six matches left to play.

For Mushekwi, he is now in firm control in the race to win the Golden Boot award after moving to 22 goals (plus two assists) in 24 league matches.

Colombian striker Juan Diego Alegria is second with 15.

Mushekwi's latest goals came with a traditional header for the opener, before he was gifted the second with an easy finish on his right foot.

The 37-year-old then completed his hat-trick by rising highest to head home the fifth for his team.

The former Zimbabwe international now has the best strike rate ever recorded at the club as he leads his latest promotion job having done the same before at both his previous Chinese clubs Dalian Yifang and Zhejiang Professional.

Mushekwi has now surpassed the 20 goals that he scored last season for Zhejiang Professional in the Chinese Super League.

Goals have always been part of his game having scored 40 goals in 53 starts while at Sundowns.

He has been on double numbers for 11 of the 14 years that he has played professional football in South Africa, Sweden, and China.
