Lars Veldwijk addresses Bafana Bafana future after two years in the cold

Veldwijk, 29, won the last of his seven caps for Bafana Bafana in July 2019 when he made a late cameo appearance during South Africa's 2-1 AFCON quarter-final defeat to Nigeria.

The Dutch-born striker has not featured for the national team since Stuart Baxter's departure at the end of that tournament and was most recently left out of the squad for the 3-2 friendly victory over Uganda earlier this month.

Meanwhile, he has been racking up goals for club side Suwon in the South Korean top-flight and currently ranks as the third-highest goalscorer in the K League 1 this season, with eight goals in 18 appearances thus far.

His tally for the campaign includes an impressive seven goals in his last eight matches for the club and he was also nominated for the division's Player of the Month award for the month of May.

Despite his time in the international wilderness, Veldwijk remains committed to the national team's cause and, with the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on the horizon, he hopes his club form will earn him a recall to the national team under newly-appointed coach Hugo Broos.
