Kylian Mbappe could face South Africa in Tokyo 2021 Olympics with France

South Africa U23s were drawn with hosts Japan, Mexico and France in Group A for the upcoming global showpiece that allows each squad to select three overage players.

With countries opting to select some of their most high-profile players for the tournament, Mbappe at 22, still qualifies to be selected without the special ruling.

And after being named in the upcoming European Championship squad, the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner revealed his desire to also represent his nation in Japan.

"For us, having recognition from the whole country is very important," Mbappe confirmed to French state television channel TF1.

"Everyone knows that my dream has always been to take part at the Olympic Games and I hope I will be able to realise one of my lifelong dreams."
