SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has emerged as a possible candidate to take over as the new captain of Bafana Bafana.
New national team coach Hugo Broos has dropped captain Thulani Hlatshwayo from his squad for the international friendly against Uganda in Soweto next month.
As per his promise to build a strong Bafana Bafana team with a youthful squad, Broos has called up a number of younger players including Sibusiso Mabiliso, Sipho Mbule and Bongokuhle Hlongwane in preparation for the start of the World Cup qualifiers in September.
According to SAFA spokesperson Dominic Chimhavi, Broos is yet to make a call on the issue of the captaincy.
"We don't know yet. The issue of Bafana Bafana captain is decided by the coach," Chimhavi tells snl24.com/kickoff.
Golden Arrows defender Nkosinathi Sibisi has received his first call-up by Broos while Keagan Dolly and Percy Tau are the only overseas-based players in the squad to face the Cranes at Orlando Stadium on June 10.
