Bafana have lost just one of their four AFCON qualifiers played in the current campaign thus far, and face group leaders Ghana at FNB Stadium this evening.
The Black Stars are top with nine points, tied with Molefi Ntseki's charges as well as Sudan, who beat Sao Tome and Principe in their fifth match on Wednesday.
As things stand, there is now a three-way tie for points in Group C, though head-to-head is what determines the current position of Bafana ahead of Sudan.
The winner of tonight's encounter will decide the outright leader before the final round of fixtures this weekend, when Bafana will travel to Sudan and Ghana will host Sao Tome.
In the event of a draw this evening, Ghana and Bafana will remain first and second respectively due to their head-to-head record, which saw the West African side win 2-0 in their home leg in 2019.
Bafana will then have to avoid defeat against Sudan in their final encounter on Sunday, which would maintain their head-to-head record over the Falcons of Jediane.
If Bafana beat Ghana by a score margin of three goals or more, they'll need a win or draw in Khartoum to secure top spot in the group, while losing by a margin of one goal would still seal their tickets to Cameroon next year based on their superior head-to-head against Ghana.
For Ghana, even a defeat by less than a three-goal margin this evening and a victory over Sao Tome in their final game on Sunday will ensure their qualification, as long as Bafana do not lose to Sudan.
Sudan, meanwhile, will need to beat Bafana by a score-line higher than 1-0 to leapfrog them into the second qualification spot, with Sao Tome already completely ruled out of the race.
Ultimately, Bafana simply need to draw against Sudan to ensure their second successive AFCON qualification, even if they lose by a ridiculous margin to Ghana tonight.
