In this edition of Where Are They Now, KickOff explores the current situation of the once-promising right winger Luyolo Nomandela.
According to his new coach at Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League club Tiger Boys FC, the 35-year-old is still very active and reviving his football in Middelburg.
Nomandela previously played for teams like Chippa United, Cape Town City, Jomo Cosmos, Moroka Swallows, and even Mamelodi Sundowns. However, his career faced challenges due to issues with discipline.
"Luyolo is here with me in Mpumalanga, and he still has a lot to offer," reveals his coach, Tshepo Motsoeneng.
"The problem with Luyolo is that he has been misjudged. Many people only see failure and do not care to look beyond it; they just want to see him gone.
"Whenever I get a new coaching position, I wish to have Luyolo Nomandela on my team because he is very positive right now. I know some will criticize him, but as a coach, I don't focus on that. Everyone makes mistakes, and sometimes they are unintentional.
"People quickly forget that this is life, and circumstances can change. So far, he has come on as a substitute twice and has already played in two matches. We hope he will soon make a significant impact, guided by his fitness.
"In the later stages, he may play a crucial role in our club. For now, he helps motivate the other players while I work hard with him both psychologically and physically," he added.
"The last time he was fully active was six months ago. Until then, he has been training on his own.
"Luyolo's situation is painful; he gives his best, but once you're judged, it's hard to change that perception. In South Africa, public opinion often outweighs everything else.
"Even teams at the highest level could benefit from Luyolo's football knowledge. It's unfortunate that people have a negative view of him, but I see things differently. I want the best for him, and in time, something positive will happen."
