Weekend Wrap: Rele magic, Al Ahly cry foul, Stellies hammered

In this week's Weekend Wrap, there is Relebohile Mofokeng stealing the show as Orlando Pirates' CAF Champions League opponents cried foul, a Mamelodi Sundowns star to the rescue again, and a Kaizer Chiefs youngster continuing with his inspiring form.

Pirates ended their CAF Champions League group stage campaign in fine fashion with a 2-1 win over Egyptian giants Al Ahly at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday.

With that, the side has finish the group stage phase with an impressive 14 points from six matches and go through to the quarter-finals undefeated.

For Mofokeng, it was only the second Man of the Match award following his standout performance that included the opening goal, before Gilberto added a second.

However, the match was not without controversy as the home side were denied an equaliser in the dying minutes after Rami Rabia was ruled offside.

Post-match, head coach Marcel Koller bemoaned the absence of VAR in the group stage, suggesting they were denied a legitimate goal.

Meanwhile, for a second consecutive Champions League encounter, The Brazilians needed the heroics of Peter Shalulile to earn a point and qualify for the quarterfinals after a 1-1 draw against AS FAR, who finished top of the group.

It was only a sixth goal across all competitions for the Namibian, who, by his high standards, has had an underwhelming campaign.

However, he has proven to be able to provide the goods when needed most, as it was his goal from the bench that helped the team come from behind to overcome Maniema Union the weekend before and keep their hopes in the competition alive.

Stellies hammered in Morocco

Stellenbosch FC suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat to RSB Berkane in their final CAF Confederation Cup group stage clash.

The result mattered little in the grand scheme of things, though, as both sides had already qualified for the knockout stages before the match.

Three wins from six matches were enough to hand Steve Barker's men a spot in the Last 16, finishing in second place, behind group winners Berkane, who breezed through without a single loss.

Chiefs rediscovered their winning form via a 1-0 win over Sekhukhune United at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

Samkelo Zwane - voted Man of the Match - provided the assist for the only goal of the encounter, netted by Mfundo Vilakazi.

The victory was the sixth for the season in 14 matches and Nasreddine Nabi's charges climbed up to the fifth spot.

For Sekhukhune, the defeat was a first in five fixtures and not enough to knock them off fourth position.
