Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane hopes Elias Pelembe scores for Wits

The Mozambican winger is set to feature for the Students against the Brazilians, but Mosimane insists he’s not losing sleep over facing Pelembe and goes as far as saying he wishes Pelembe scores against them as long as Sundowns emerge victorious.

“This is an everyday thing. Last week I faced Bonginkosi Ntuli and Eleazar Rodgers [of Platinum Stars], and Rodgers almost scored. Did you see? When he [Pelembe] scores, good luck. He is a good player and I hope he scores, but as long as we win,” Mosimane says.

Meanwhile, ‘Jingles’ has explained why the club had no other option but to let Pelembe leave for Wits.

Mosimane says the Brazilians simply couldn’t afford to keep him and points out that Sundowns should be careful who they pay big money for as other players could become demotivated.

“We had to let Pelembe go, because we could not afford him and there were other players we wanted, but we couldn’t match the figures. The figures are very difficult and we need to build a team here. We don’t want to break the spirit of other players by overpaying others,” he says.

“Pelembe is a very good footballer and there is no doubt about that, but it must be cost effective. When we pay big money, you must score lots of goals for us to win the [League] title and take us to the Champions League group stages.

“We need to be sensible now and we are sensible, but it is not only us. They [players] must earn the money that they want and you can’t score two goals per year and you are the highest paid player. No,” he adds.
