Although Muchichwa began his football career in South Africa at Qwa Qwa Stars, it was at Kaizer Chiefs where he was given the popular nickname 'Mashamplani'.
Mashamplani was the name of the mid-nineties group with the hit song "YU4Me" by Kwaito music legend Mdu Masilela, released around the same time Muchichwa arrived at Chiefs from the Free State.
Muchichwa maintains that playing for a club with the stature of Kaizer Chiefs was his biggest achievement.
"But I definitely know it came from the Kaizer Chiefs supporters. Do you remember that song Mashamplani? It was during that time.
Just as I was that song was a hit back in those days. [Laughs] I don't even know the meaning of the word Mashamplani. But I guess it's just a lingo that people used in different ways. Football supporters are very creative."
Muchichwa says though they are very much aware of his nickname 'Mashamplani', back home in Zimbabwe they prefer calling him 'Sarafina', an award-winning South African musical depicting students involved in Soweto riots during the Apartheid era.
"In Zimbabwe, they call me Sarafina. It was just after that movie had been released."
