Stellenbosch teenager Roy-Keane Avontuur makes history after DStv Premiership debut

Stellies not only celebrated their return to the old stomping ground they made a fortress while in the second tier but also the meteoric rise of a player who was signed just a day before the game.

Avontuur, 17, rocked up to the Cape Winelands-based side for MultiChoice Diski trials during pre-season preparation and after impressing he was retained with the crop of promising talent for the upcoming campaign.

But head coach Steve Barker admitted before their clash against the Dube Birds that his performances were hard to ignore, prompting him to offer the youngster the chance to sign a professional contract with the first-team.

The stocky teenager showed some impressive touches after being introduced in the second half for Lelethu Skelm in the 75th minute of the clash and will be hoping for another opportunity when they face Orlando Pirates on Wednesday (19h30).
