PSL promotion play-offs scheduled to go ahead

Premier Soccer League prosecutor Zola Majavu has confirmed the promotion/relegation play-offs will commence on Sunday.

The Johannesburg High Court had dismissed an urgent application to stop play-offs from starting due to Upington City's protest against Milford FC.

Upington claimed that Milford did not have the minimum number of Under-23 players on the field during their Motsepe Foundation Championship clash in April.

After the losing their case at the SAFA arbitration, the high court also dismissed their urgent application and the matter has now been closed.

"I can confirm that a short while ago the high court in Johannesburg dismissed an urgent application to interdict the play-offs, scheduled to commence tomorrow," Majavu said via the PSL media department.

"Such application was brought by Upington United Football Club, having lost an arbitration yesterday evening.

"According to Upington, they wanted the play-offs to be interdicted pending a review of their challenge against the arbitration award in terms of which their protest was dismissed.

"I can now confirm that the play-offs will proceed without a glitch after their application was dismissed with costs. There will be no further commentary on the matter unless there are any subsequent development arising from any other subsequent matters. The Upington chapter has now been closed."
