Polokwane City players in court for bus accident case

Four Polokwane City players were killed when Mahlodi James Machete crashed his bakkie into the bus that was transporting 22 passengers including 19 players on 11 November 2012 after their match against FC AK at Oscar Mpeta Stadium in Turfloop.

Khomotso Mpaketsane, Mojalefa Mphuthi, Koketso Takalo and Benjamin Nthete perished in the accident, while others were seriously injured including Kopano Sekgobela (pictured), who is now wheelchair-bound and spoke of his ordeal with KICK OFF in Issue 449 that came out in August.

“Yes, I was in court today along with about five of our players. We are basically expected to testify regarding what happened that day, so we will go back next year,” City striker Puleng Tlolane tells snl24.com/kickoff.

Mankweng police spokesperson Constable Matimba Maluleke confirms that the case will resume early next year. “It has been postponed to February 17,” he says.

The case has been postponed numerous times in the past for further investigation.
