In this edition of My First, KickOff speaks to the hilarious Mkhanyiseli Siwahla, affectionately known as 'Makalegs'.
The former Ajax Cape Town star reveals how he had to give away his medal and jersey to girls in exchange for their love.
My First School:
"Eish, I have forgotten the name of that local school. It was either called Mfula or Mfuleni Primary School, something like that. It was right where I was staying. I think it was Mvula [in Nyanga East], but they have changed the name now to something else.
"I think I was nine years old when I went there. Before that, I had never been even to creche. So, the whole set-up was new to me."
My First Kiss:
"I got my first kiss during my days at the Ajax Cape Town development. I was young, so I just decided to put on my Ajax tracksuit and went to look for this girl I wanted with all my heart.
"I told her: 'Hey girl, can you please kiss me and I will give you this tracksuit and this Ajax shirt I'm wearing?' And she did [laughs]."
My First Favourite Club:
"I have been a Kaizer Chiefs fan for as long as I can remember, hence I always had difficulties playing against them.
"I never played well against Kaizer Chiefs. I would only shine for 20 to 30 minutes, and after that, I would get emotional. I never focused against Kaizer Chiefs.
"I only played my best football against Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and the rest. But as for Chiefs, I thought: 'Ah, this is my team, I cannot kill my team."
My First Soccer Boots:
"I got them from this one guy in Nyanga. I wore them for only five minutes and took them out. I was not used to playing in them. They were slowing me down. The brand name was Puma."
My First Goal:
"It was against Dynamos at Athlone Stadium. I was just running aimlessly, and I just kicked the ball and the next thing it was a goal. It was not intentional."
My First Red Card:
"My first red card came from this guy Ace Ncobo. Uyabona lomntu lowo [You see that guy]! He gives me a red card even though we are both Xhosas.
"We were playing against Jomo Cosmos, they kicked me and I retaliated by saying something, and I was given a red card."
My First Individual Award:
"In my first game for Ajax, I got it all: Man of the Match, the youngest ever footballer to play a PSL match, I scored a goal. This was against Dynamos in the 2003/04 season."
My first Trophy With a Club:
"It was the Absa Cup. I won it with Ajax. But I'm now only left with the Telkom Knockout medal. The thing is, when I was young, since I was not a good-looking person, whatever they used to give me at Ajax I would use to get a girl.
"Before getting something from a girl, I'd bribe her first with a medal, a shirt or even a tracksuit. That's how I was operating because andikwazi ukushela [I don't know how to propose] Eish, I was a flop."
My First Car:
"A second-hand Velociti. It was R120 000. I bought it as a starter, something to help me learn to drive, and after that, I bought myself a Mini Cooper."
