Mark Anderson opens up on Msilo nickname

The 58-year-old enjoys legendary status in South Africa following great football career after keeping goals for the likes of Pretoria Callies, Umtata Bush Bucks and Hellenic amongst others.

Anderson, whose son Marc Anderson plays as a goalkeeper for DStv Premiership outfit Cape Town City, got his nickname after the unbelievable saves he used to make.

Anderson says his famous nickname came from the successful local television series Lesilo Rula, which was about a man terrorising his community with a tokoloshe or a ghost called 'Lesilo' ordering it around to intimidate and kill people.

"There was a TV show, I think in TV 2 and 3 hey, one of those back in the day. They said to me it was about this little guy who could perform miracles. That type of thing. I'm not 100% sure.

"I did watch it sometimes but...(laughs) it's along those lines. Jeez! we had stuff man (laugh). He was just doing crazy stuff actually man. Ja they said that he could do miracles, it was nice you know.

"But it was nice getting nicknames you know back in those days. The players now they don't have nicknames the game is boring now you know. I think it's just the modern world you know.

"In our days I think it was a little bit more personal man. Ja but I'm glad I played in that time you know, I wouldn't like to play today, like a bunch of Robots running around. Nothing personal you know. We can't see a Jomo or Ace Mnini or a Zane Moosa doing their stuff you know, it's all just this quick robotic stuff...it has just become a bit boring man.

"I'm very proud of my nickname. I even have a tattoo on my arm. I've got the Sundowns badge on my arm, and then with Lesilo written in there. It always reminds me of the good times you know."
