Manqoba Mngqithi hails Hlompho Kekana for playing centre-back

Kekana led by example in the DStv Premiership match against Black Leopards in Limpopo as he took responsibility as a central defender after Mothobi Mvala was red-carded in the 66th minute.

The Brazilians went on to beat Lidoda Duvha 2-1 to extend their lead at the top of the log to three points.

Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi says they never doubted Kekana's ability despite his lack of regular game-time so far this season.

"We know what these boys can do. I have always told people that there would be a time in the league where the captain comes back fresh and helps the team," said Mngqithi after the win.

"Indeed I believe today he really played a big role in keeping the ship steady and making sure we got the result."

Sundowns are still without defenders Ricardo Nascimento, Lyle Lakay, Khuliso Mudau and Brian Onyango due to injuries and other medical reasons.
