Burkina Faso defender Oula Abass Traore's name has been on Chiefs' radar with the Soweto giants yet to make a conclusive decision.
The 26-year-old who stands at 1.8 metres tall featured against Amakhosi for Horoya in the 2020/21 CAF Champions League.
A statement from Horoya confirms that Traore has left the club after two years.
"At the end of the contract, Oula Abass Traore and Horoya Athletic Club have not reached an agreement to extend their collaboration.
"The club thanks the Burkinabe defender for these two great years spent in the red and white jersey," says a statement from the club.
Traore is a left-footed central defender who Horoya wanted to retain but negotiations failed to yield an extension.
Meanwhile, another player offered to Chiefs earlier this year is also leaving his club.
South Sudanese international Valentino Yuel's name has been on Chiefs' wanted list for several months after his countryman Abraham Majok signed for AmaZulu.
After initially showing interest, they backtracked but since the sacking of Stuart Baxter and subsequent appointment of Arthur Zwane and the release of a third of the playing squad the goalposts could shift.
Yuel (27) plays in Australia for Newcastle United Jets and will be a free agent at the end of the month.
There has also been talks to snap up Dillon Solomons from Swallows FC.
