Kaizer Chiefs have dropped their salary bill immensely through the current transfer window with the club now keeping tight purse strings.
Chiefs have been throwing overblown packages like confetti at a wedding in recent years to some players who have delivered little which pushed the club into reacting with a mass clearout.
AmaKhosi have had a busy break with a dozen departures including Leonardo Castro, Samir Nurkovic, Lazarous Kambole, Bernard Parker, Kearyn Baccus, Daniel Cardoso, Lebogang Manyama, Daniel Akpeyi, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Dumisani Zuma, Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Teddy Akumu.
The total annual packages bill for all players released went over R30 million per annum with the bulk of the players released having been on six-figure salaries.
These packages left Chiefs' finances stretched to the limit and not making economic sense to a club that has been firing blanks with questionable performances from senior players and not winning silverware since 2015.
The weight of what Castro, Nurkovic, Parker, Cardoso, Akpeyi and Manyama gave the club in return for what they were earning left a lot to be desired while there was little to justify why Mphahlele, Baccus, Zuma, Kambole, Akumu and Ntiya-Ntiya should be kept at the club.
Following the departures, the club responded by going lightweight in what they will be paying.
Top of the list of those that have come is midfielder Yusuf Maart who has joined from Sekhukhune United on a six-figure salary with Siyethemba Sithebe second on the new signings' packages weighting.
The rest of the new players are Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Lehlogonolo Matlou, Dillan Solomons, Zitha Kwinika and Ashley du Preez while Mduduzi Shabalala has been promoted from the development.
The weight of packages for all players brought in is still less than R20 million per annum.
This has so far meant the order of business done by Chiefs has cut down their packages bill heavily compared to what they were sitting on last season.
Though Chiefs are still in the market for a number nine they are treading carefully with the money they pay players and reluctant to dance to the demands of agents.
The only heavy earners still at the club are, Keagan Dolly, Khama Billiat and Itumeleng Khune while Mulomowandau Mathoho is also on good money.
With the rest of the squad, they are on decent PSL standards packages.
