Innocent Maela apologises for Orlando Pirates own-goal against Black Leopards

Orlando Pirates defender Innocent Maela has responded to the social media outrage over his performance against Black Leopards on Sunday afternoon.

The Buccaneers faithful were not impressed by the display of the team as they were outplayed by Lidoda Duhva and lost 2-0 in Limpopo.

Maela was one of the players who drew the fans' anger after scoring an own-goal while defending a corner-kick he conceded in fortuitous fashion.

With the pressure coming in from unimpressed supporters, the left-back took to social media to apologise for the loss and take full responsibility.

"Disappointing match yesterday, simply not good enough. I take full responsibility for my mistakes and actions leading up to the first goal. I apologise Buccaneers. We promise to be better," he wrote.

Pirates will look to bounce back in their next match against unbeaten and in-form Golden Arrows at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday (17h00).
