Former PSL player Almiro Lobo graduates with psychology degree

Former Bidvest Wits and Platinum Stars left-back Almiro Lobo has turned against the tide in proving that university qualifications can be attained while coping with the demands of football.

Lobo has been studying at the Instituto Superior Politecnico Privado do Luena (ISPP-Luena) in Luena, Angola where he is a co-coach at top-tier league club Bravos do Maquis.

The former defender relocated to Angola from his homeland Mozambique nine years after having played in the PSL for four and a half years.

"I have been studying since 2017 and I now have my degree in Organisational Psychology," Lobo tells KickOff.

"This qualification is not related to my duties in football because it could have been engineering, architecture or marketing.

"I chose Psychology because I have always been fascinated by the functionality of the mind and the order of behaviour that it prompts.

"Through my studies, I have been able to elevate myself into having a detailed understanding of the mentality and motivation that a human being needs.

"The human mind has so much power in determining so much.

"I started my studies while still playing after realising how much free time I was having that in this small town of Luena.

"Though this degree might not be football related I can still take what I gained into football because I now know how to motivate a player better.

"I hope a lot more of us former players can get into studying considering the amount of time that we have available to us," says Lobo.
