DStv Premiership match report Stellenbosch v Golden Arrows 06 November 2021

Abafana Besthende entered the match with Knox Mutizwa and Andile Fikizolo starting from the bench to Stellies granting Ibraheem Jabaar and Judas Moseamedi a look in.

The earlier chance went the way of Stellenbosch on two minutes after Stanley Dimgba flashed a loose ball way beyond the intended target.

More chances followed eight minutes afterwards when a cross in by Ashley Du Preez allocated Moseamedi, who drew a save off Nkosingiphile Gumede following a stern effort.

Arrows were unfortunate not to go behind in the middle of the first half from Pule Mmodi's shot off a corner-kick by Nduduzo Sibiya, but Sage Stephens saved brilliantly.

The Maroon and Whites were close to the lead inside 37 minutes when Nathan Sinkala headed a set-piece from Du Preez against the crossbar.

Abafana Besthende displayed a different spark following the second half as a free-kick from the edge of the area by Sibiya shaved the bar off a foul by Marc Van Heerden.

Further trouble unsettled Stellenbosch as a move minutes into the restart by Sibiya and Nqubeko Dlamini coincided with Siboniso Conco, who drilled the resultant initiative wide of the mark.

Stellies were first to make a substitution in the earlier stages of the half, as Sandile Mthethwa made way for youngster Jayden Adams.

The home side looked to have snatched the winner courtesy of a finish by Waseem Isaacs, but it was called off for offside before Deano Van Rooyen fluffed a delightful ball from Zitha Kwinika.

In the end, the match between the respective outfits finished goalless with Stellies unable to close-in on the leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
