DStv Premiership match report Royal AM v Marumo Gallants 21 August 2022

Royal AM came from behind twice to secure a 2-2 draw against Marumo Gallants FC in an entertaining DStv Premiership clash on Sunday afternoon.

The host unleashed four changes from the loss to Orlando Pirates in Phila Mzila, Siphesihle Msomi, Khethukuthula Ndlovu and Lesvin Stoffels, whilst Sven Yida made his debut for Gallants.

Royal AM were under intense pressure in the opening 10 minutes and nearly fell behind through a snap shot from close-range by Sede Dion, but goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo palmed away.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa remained calm five minutes later and went ahead after Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo retrieved a pass from the edge of the area by Celimpilo Ngema and drilled into the near corner.

Royal AM should've drawn level before the half-hour mark when Stoffels charged onto a ball over the top and got a shot in which goalkeeper Washington Arubi steered for a corner.

Thwihli Thwahla remained patient in and out of possession and levelled on the stroke of halftime through a first-time shot in the area by Stoffels after Gallants fluffed their lines.

Both sides made substitutions ahead of the second half, with Mfundo Thikazi and Jabulani Ncobeni on for the host and Mahlatse Makudubela introduced for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa.

Gallants regained the lead six minutes apart when an unmarked Dion sneaked in at the near post and headed Ngema's pin-point cross into the far corner.

Thwihli Thwahla had their backs against the wall once again but could've gone back on level terms later on from a smart shot outside the area by Tebogo Potsane, but Arubi saved.

Royal AM rallied on and missed another sitter with eight minutes to go after substitute Mxolisi Macuphu nodded Thabo Matlaba's floating ball wide before Thikazi snapped a loose ball across the face of goal.

AM were rewarded in the dying minutes as good work from Thikazi out wide resulted in a snap shot that bobbled around only for Nascimento to bundle in the rebound and leave the spoils shared.
