Mamelodi Sundowns were denied an unbeaten finish to the DStv Premiership season after going down 1-0 to Cape Town City on Saturday afternoon.
Sundowns had Bongani Zungu, Mothobi Mvala, Lebohang Maboe, Thapelo Morena, Themba Zwane and Siyabonga Mabena in from the 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy before Patrick Fisher, Luyolo Slatsha, Tshegofatso Nyama and Isaac Leshabela in the fold.
Masandawana looked to settle first and pulled a scare when a towering header from Mosa Lebusa following a free-kick drew Darren Keet to a save.
It was still the host with the momentum well around the midway period and had Tashreeq Matthews go wide from a cross by Maboe.
City did come in their own a little later following the underwhelming opening, but the Brazilians through the reliable goalkeeper Ronwen Williams kept them out.
Maboe opted to go the sole route a little to the half-hour mark and watched a flying first-time volley from him from inside the area go well wide of Keet's goal.
With no substitutions at halftime, the Brazilians came close again as Keet had to pull across his area to guide Mabena's first-time drive to safety.
Sundowns introduced a double substitution 12 minutes in the second stanza with Matias Esquivel in for Maboe before Teboho Mokoena came on in place of Matthews.
The Citizens stunned the reigning champions past the 60th minute after Jaedin Rhodes came in on the near side of the area and finished with aplomb.
Mokoena went close to restoring parity a little later with a strike from outside the box, but he was kept out by a certain Keet.
Sundowns continued pushing for the equaliser in the final exchanges with numerous opportunities, but were unable to capitalise and suffered their first defeat of the season.
