DStv Premiership match report Mamelodi Sundowns v Bloemfontein Celtic 19 January 2020

Sundowns started with Kermit Erasmus instead of Gaston Sirino, who dropped to the bench whereas Celtic were without influential captain Ndumiso Mabena and Mzwanele Mahashe.

The Brazilians threatened an early breakthrough from a cross-cum shot on the left-side by Tebogo Langerman, but the full-back watched his attempt curl past the top corner of the net.

Celtic looked promising on the counter-attack prior to the half-hour mark, however Themba Zwane nearly gifted Masandawana the lead from a one-two on the right but struck the side-netting.

Masandawana continued to probe as Zwane released Erasmus from a move through the middle 35 minutes in, but Celtic goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane came up with a point-blank save.

At the other end, a ball through the middle from Harris Tchilimbou at the other end unleashed Siphelele Luthuli who after rounding Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango, saw his shot cleared off the line.

Siwelele Sa Masele made a forced substitution five minutes into the second half after a shoulder injury to Mabokgwane earned Sipho Chaine a recall from the bench.

Sundowns closed-in inside 56 minutes when Erasmus picked a pass from midfield to carve an angle outside the area before going on to crack the top of the woodwork.

John Maduka's side regained momentum minutes later and had a goal from Motebang Sera disallowed for offside before a bicycle kick from the latter brought Onyango to a superb save.

Masandawana absorbed the pressure a little later and produced an acrobatic save off Chaine following a shot near the byline from Erasmus.

A glorious opening in the closing minutes landed at the feet of Andile Fikizolo, who blazed over with the goal-gaping following a goal-mouth scramble seeing Sundowns to successive goalless draws.
