DStv Premiership match report Golden Arrows v Stellenbosch 06 April 2022

Stellenbosch FC collected their first win of the year in the DStv Premiership after beating Golden Arrows 2-0 on Wednesday evening.

Abafana Besthende were unchanged from the win over SuperSport United, but Stellies featured a new front pair from the draw with Sekhukhune United in Judas Moseamedi and Antonio Van Wyk.

Stellenbosch got the first shot in anger after seven minutes through Jayden Adams which Nkosingiphile Gumede parried away.

Another opportunity arrived three minutes later from Stellies when a one-touch move involving Sage Stephens and Rafiq De Goede brought Moseamedi in on goal, but he went wide.

Stellenbosch's period of pressure play began to subside and let Arrows to a few openings none more a lob from range by Pule Mmodi towards the final quarter of the first period.

Sbonelo Cele suffered a kncok two minutes after the half-hour mark, which forced Abafana Besthende to remove him and introduce Siboniso Conco.

Following a lively first half, Abafana Besthende targeted the breakthrough five minutes from the interval through Nqubeko Dlamini from a release by Nduduzo Sibiya but he went wide.

However, the Maroons possessed calmness and hit the front with 55 minutes played through Adams after he latched onto a through pass from Van Wyk for his first-ever top flight goal.

Abafana Besthende looked to respond immediately and carved out two clear chances which Velemseni Ndwandwe amongst others couldn't use to his team's benefit.

However,, the visitors doubled their lead in the final five minutes through a composed one-on-one finish from Ashley Du Preez.

Once again, Arrows went searching for a quick response in the closing exchanges but Stellies ended victorious on the day.
