Denis Onyango reaches double figures in clean sheets as PSL's best goalkeeper

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango's reliability between the posts has been further enhanced by his standing as the only goalkeeper with double figures in his clean sheets count midway through the season.

In the last game that Onynago played Sundowns recorded a routine 2-0 win over Chippa United to maintain their unbeaten league run.

That result meant Onyango jumped up to 10 clean sheets in only his 14th league match – one of the quickest dashes to a double figure clean sheets count ever in PSL history.

So difficult to beat has the Ugandan been that he has only conceded four goals in 14 league matches and is yet to concede twice in a single game this term.

Of the keepers that have played regularly for their respective clubs this season, none come close.

SuperSport United's Ronwen Williams has kept just just five clean sheets in 14 games, conceding 13 in the process.

Virgil Vries of Swallows has also kept it clean in just five matches from the 13 he has played and has been beaten nine times.

Golden Arrows' ever-present first-choice Sifiso Mlungwana has also kept just five clean sheets from 14 games.

For Richard Ofori of Orlando Pirates, he has four clean sheets from 11 games and has conceded nine league goals.

Peter Leeuwenburgh's numbers at Cape Town City are disappointing as he has only two clean sheets from 14 games and has conceded 21 league goals.

Daniel Akpeyi has kept it fair for Kaizer Chiefs keeping five clean sheets from 10 games and conceding seven.

With regards to Onyango, only players from Black Leopards, Swallows, Golden Arrows and Maritzburg have been able to beat the veteran keeper this season.

Though the season is only at its halfway stage, Onyango has already improved on the eight clean sheets he kept in the league last season and is cruising to his best numbers ever.

His best clean sheet count stands at 13, achieved from the 23 league matches he played in the 2006/07 season – his first in the PSL.
