Experienced football administrator and lawyer Tim Sukazi continues his pursuit of an Absa Premiership status and is close to securing a deal with Highlands' directors.
Reports emerged over the weekend that Highlands has been sold, but this is not the case according to co-director Brad Kaftel.
"At this stage yes we've been engaging with Sukazi for four months, but we haven't done a deal yet," Kaftel tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"There's a long way to go you know. But one thing I can tell you is that, if we do sell the club, the money we will get will only pay off our debt. We will have no money left.
"Highlands Park have borrowed money, we've got debts. And if we do sell the club, that money will pay off the debts. There'll be no money left for the shareholders. Do you understand? This is not about selling and you taking the money and then you fly around the world.
"The money will pay off what we owe. So it's a sale of debt really. If we do sell the club, there won't be any money for anybody. You know the deal is not yet confirmed, it might not happen, there's a long way to go and if it's not approved by the PSL or anything like that... we may carry on.
"If it's sold, Highlands Park will maybe take a break for one year and then we will buy a NFD status and come back. Alternatively, if the deal doesn't happen we will carry on as Highlands Park but we'll have to reduce our budget.
"A transaction like this is not simple, it's complicated... there's players, there's contracts you know. It's a complicated matter so the deal is not done, we have not sold the club today as we speak.
"We have been talking to Tim Sukazi for at least four months. And if there's going to be a deal, it has to happen soon. But stay in touch with me and I will keep you posted."
Tshakhuma Tsha Madzhivhandila have already bought Bidvest Wits' status for next season, with Sukazi recently failing in a bid to buy both Bloemfontein Celtic and Wits.
