The PSL's record scorer, with 120 goals, and oldest active player celebrated his birthday on Saturday.
“I never thought I’d get to this age, I’m extremely happy that I am still playing and that I can still mix it up with the youngsters in the team,” Nomvethe told his club's website.
“It’s a big deal to me, it’s a blessing because it seldom happens in South Africa. Even on this day I’m still pleased that I’m still able to use the talent that God gave me.
“My family has been quite supportive all the time, everyone at home and my kids, they follow me everywhere I go. For them and me it’s a positive legacy to look back into.”
Nomvethe, who earned 82 caps for Bafana Bafana and played overseas in his prime, says hard work has been key to his success.
“What’s important is to work hard for the team and not to worry about stardom, your teammates must come first.
“If you’re going to give your all in the task at hand, especially since we’re given talents in different degrees, hard work often becomes key to achieve something in your career.”
Meanwhile, the former Udinese forward says he was inspired by the likes of Bafana legends Doctor Khumalo and Shaun Bartlett when he was coming through the ranks.
“Growing up I followed the likes of Luiz Ronaldo, Doctor Khumalo, Pollen Ndlanya, Shaun Bartlett, and it is amazing that I got to meet some of them. Growing up alongside them helped to shape me to be a better player.”
