Pirates with extra bite for SuperSport?

In the aftermath of a shock defeat to Magesi FC and a congested schedule, Orlando Pirates are expected to call on two experienced players to strengthen the side ahead of their Betway Premiership match against SuperSport United.

The Buccaneers were stunned at home by newly-promoted Magesi in a 3-2 defeat on Saturday, sending them crashing out of the Carling Knockout in the first hurdle.

Head coach Jose Riveiro and Co. have had little time to sulk, however, as SuperSport United lie in wait on Tuesday.

The Spaniard came under some criticism for fielding a midfield lacking in defensive strength and experience as both Miguel Timm and Makhehlene Makhaula did not make the matchday squad, with Thalente Mbatha out injured.

For Tuesday's encounter, Pirates are expected to welcome back both Timm and Makhaula, with at least one of them expected to feature against the struggling Tshwane outfit.

Timm has made just two appearances so far this season and is yet to start a single match.

The 32-year-old made 30 appearances across all competitions last term and could provide some steel in midfield that will have to compete with the likes of Siphesihle Ndlovu.

Meanwhile, Makhaula has started most of the side's matches this season and his absence on Saturday was somewhat of a surprise.

He has already made 10 appearances across all competitions early on.

It could be that Riveiro opted to rest the hard-man specifically for the league fixtures at Esgodini, and 'Cash' will be a welcome return to the starting line-up.

In the opposite corner, Matsatsantsa are equally wounded after suffering an embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in their Carling Knockout Last 16 encounter.

The match at Orlando Stadium is scheduled to kick off at 19:00.
