Ndlondlo: It's difficult for fans to understand

Midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo has addressed questions over his position at Orlando Pirates, having been one of the team's key players last season.

The 29-year-old joined Pirates from Marumo Gallants and almost immediately became one of the side's key players, making 30 appearances during his first season.

He featured 28 times last season but started just one of the last 10 league matches of the campaign, prompting questions over his place in the team.

Speaking on 94.7's Marawa Sports World on Monday evening, the pint-sized star offered some clarity on his position.

"What I can say about the position thing is that when it comes to the technical perspective, I need to do what is requested from a technical perspective," explained Ndlondlo.

"So, it comes back to me as a player to adapt to what is required of me in the field of play. I don't think it's something that I am having difficulty in dealing with when I was playing as a six or an eight.

"It's only a mindset thing whereby you have to get your mind right and do what is required of you, which is something that I have been doing. I haven't been struggling.

"But when you compare it to the team I was playing for before, which is Marumo Gallants, it's different now because Miguel [Timm] was playing as a six and I was playing as an eight or a 10.

"So, it's different to what is happening now at Orlando Pirates. If you can check, most of the time we are playing as double pivots, whereby it requires mostly, I need to help when it comes to defending and also helping the team when it comes to starting build-up play and also making the team play as well.

"So, it's different to what was happening at Gallants, whereby I was more about helping the team attack and creating chances for the team.

"It's only a mindset thing whereby one needs to get it right, but it's difficult for the fans to understand.

The Buccaneers recently touched down on South African soil after spending two weeks in Spain, where they played four friendly matches, against English Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle, the pair of La Liga side Sevilla and Granada, before wrapping the tour up with an encounter against Qatar Stars League champions Al Sadd.
