Difference between Riveiro & Ouaddou revealed?

Comparisons will always be made between Jose Riveiro and new Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, with one big factor potentially set to define what type of tactician the latter is.

Riveiro was known as a coach who played attractive football at Pirates, though conservative when it mattered most, particularly with his midfield and attacking combinations.

He preferred playing with anchor midfielders - who could defend and retain possession - such as Makhehlene Makhaula, Thalente Mbatha, and the likes of Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo.

The Spaniard also predominantly played with a target man up top, in Evidence Makgopa or Tshegofatso Mabasa - and a number 10 that dropped deep to link up play.

Ouaddou's first match against Polokwane City in the MTN8 showed glimpses that he could be more attacking, with Sipho Mbule and Sihle Nduli - both used to playing in advanced positions - deployed in midfield while Makhaula and Mbatha were not in the squad.

"SS (Sihle and Sipho) and MM (Makhaula and Mbatha) is very interesting. The difference is that MM are very hard-working. They can defend, fight, they make guys up front to be more comfortable," noted ex-player Benedict Vilakazi on omniaudioafrica YouTube Channel.

"The difference with SS is that they can do both - they can win the ball, they can play. Yes, I know Sipho Mbule is not that type of a midfielder that can harass, fight in getting those balls. He's not that type of a player.

"But Nduli can do both, link between the defence and attacking players, and that's where Mbule comes in. It's a very nice combination, they complemented each other very well, including 'Tito' (Patrick Maswanganyi).

"He looked more relaxed in that position, that I've got guys who can supply me, I don't have to get second balls. It's going to be difficult for MM (Makhehlene Makhaula and Thalente Mbatha," added 'Tso'.

Ouaddou also seems to prefer more mobile strikers in Boitumelo Radiopane and Yanela Mbuthuma, who appear to be his first choice forwards over Makgopa and Mabasa.
