With his contract seemingly running down at the Limpopo club, it was only a matter of time before they had to cash in on his services.
Pirates hogged the headlines after announcing the pint-sized attacker as one of their new acquisitions at the beginning of July.
Even though another Buccaneer signing Sipho Mbule is touted to be a coup by the Soweto giants, Appollis' capture has largely been regarded by fans as arguably the biggest, or the most significant, transfer since the window opened on 1 July.
Former Bucs fan-favourite Steve Lekoelea, however, has suggested that type of a hype is what leads new signings to being complacent at big clubs after arriving from the so-called small teams.
"I hear people say he's a biggest signing (in this transfer window), but this thing is what kills players a lot of the times," notes Lekoelea.
"Because (for example) a player was performing in his previous team Polokwane... many players when they arrive at a big team, they start to relax and that's when the hard work should start. But they relax.
