Shandu insists Bucs were unlucky against plucky Richards Bay

Orlando Pirates midfielder Bandile Shandu has shed some light into the side's goalless draw against Richards Bay on Sunday night.

The Buccaneers were forced to settle for a point after failing to beat 10-man Richards Bay on Sunday evening at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

Pirates dominated the game with 69% possession and 15 shots taken at goal, but the Natal Rich Boyz defended well to escape with a point.

For all their dominance, midfielder Bandile Shandu believes the Buccaneers were unlucky to not take all three points from a numerically disadvantaged Richards Bay side.

"We got all the chances," Shandu told the club's media.

"We just needed to convert but yes, we did everything, [we did] what the coach asked."

"We exploited the spaces that we knew they were going to give us and it was just a matter of putting the ball in the back of the net. In the final third, like the coach said. We just needed to calm down a bit. We were rushing thing a bit.

"We did everything right, we did what the coach asked. We carried out the instructions very well. It was just unlucky."

The draw cost the Buccaneers a chance to make ground on runaway leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Rivals Kaizer Chiefs also capitalised on Pirates' slip, beating Stellenbosch 3-1 to to demote the Buccaneers to fifth place on the log.

Riveiro's men will however, have a chance to get bac to winning ways when they host AmaZulu at the Orlando Stadium on Friday night.
