In this edition of My Locker Room Secrets, former Orlando Pirates midfielder Hleza Mofedi reveals all the behind the scenes details during his spell at the club.

Who was always late?

"It was Benedict 'Tso' Vilakazi. He always had 'family problems'. Whether it was at the gym or for a match he was always late. He always had a problem [laughs]."

Any interesting rituals before they played?

"We were steamed. We were bathed in muti, a lot. Kuyagezwa ku Pirates, it's a tradition."

Who was the jokester?

"Steve Lekoelea and the late Gift Leremi took the cake. They used to make fun of each other, especially about each other's clothes.

"They used to tell each other 'You are wearing shit man.' The thing is Gift liked to wear the UZZI brand, and Steve would tell him 'Aah, you guys are wearing school kids' brands, you must learn from me and wear only Italian.'

And Gift would reply 'Aah get lost! You also started here [wearing Uzzi]."

Was it a muti change room?

"Yes."

Who was the singer?

"Pule [former Pirates kit manager]. We called him John Barnes. He was into singing that one and we would all join in. I just forgot his favourite song. It's been a long time."

Who was the best dressed and the worst dressed?

"The best dressed was Steve Lekoelea, he would always wear his Italian brands.

"As for the worst dressed [laughs] they were many my brother. Especially Philani Kubheka. That guy would show up wearing Adidas push-ins [flip flops], you can't be always seen wearing sports brands when you are playing for Pirates.

"You must be on point when you are playing for Orlando Pirates."

Rate the coach's team talk…

"All the coaches that coached me at Pirates knew their story. From coach [Augusto] Palacios to coach [Kosta] Papic.

"Harris Choeu was also there when we won the league. They were all good. They all emphasised discipline, dedication and desire."
