Riveiro: It was an ugly game

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro described their Nedbank Cup final loss to bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs as an ‘ugly game' on Saturday.

The defeat denied the Spaniard three successive Nedbank Cup titles, while the Amakhosi put an end to their ten-year trophy drought.

It was the second Soweto Derby in as many weeks, but it the Glamour Boys who got the bragging rights this time around after the defeat seven days ago.

“An ugly game, very ugly from the beginning until the end, I think. Not so much quality today to be played, beginning of the game again one penalty they got the lead and we managed to come back,” Riveiro told SuperSport TV.

“I think we were better near the end of the first half and too little football in the second, a lot of interruptions, fouls and there were a moment five to ten minutes when Chiefs were better than us and they managed to get the lead and we try until the end to equalise but we couldn’t today,” he continued.

In their sixth final, the Buccaneers conceded that they cannot win them all and that they lacked the fluidity from last weekend.

“Our sixth final together, we cannot win all of them congratulations to the club, players as well for the effort in the competition. Today is a hard day, but we’ll be back.

“It’s not easy, it’s so difficult, today we couldn’t. I’m not going to analyse the reasons why, I know why. We couldn’t find the spaces we were looking for in the build-up and yeah that’s it,” Riveiro said.
