'Mofokeng should first help Pirates win the league'

Former Orlando Pirates star Innocent Chikoya is encouraging Relebohile Mofokeng to seize the opportunity to play abroad.

While he would love to see Mofokeng help the club win a league title before making a move, Chikoya believes the player should also be open to facing bigger challenges elsewhere.

Reports suggest that the young Bafana Bafana international has drawn interest from MLS side Minnesota United, which has reportedly made a R35 million offer for the promising talent.

Chikoya reflects a common concern among Pirates supporters regarding the decision the club should make about Mofokeng.

"The good thing is that there will be a World Cup in America, which I think will raise his profile. We just want him to develop as a football player and as a person," Chikoya tells KickOff.

"To be honest, I thought Pirates would hold on to him and aim to win the league since he has already helped them secure several cups.

"R35 million is a substantial amount for Pirates, but I don’t believe the club will focus solely on financial gain; their priority is to build the young man's profile. I think they wouldn't block his opportunity just because of money," he added.

"Ultimately, it's about the young man and his future, so if the offer is good enough for him, then he should go and experience life outside Orlando Pirates. As a former player, that's what I would want for him.

"However, as a Pirates supporter, I hope he stays for at least another year to help us win the league. If I were in his position, I would definitely seize the opportunity."
