Ngobeni, who has impressed on consecutive loan spells at Free State Stars from Mamelodi Sundowns, was put forward for the prize along with Maritzburg United duo Andrea Fileccia and Lebohang Maboe.
The Kaizer Chiefs development product is naturally pleased with the recognition.
"I think obviously it's a good thing and nice thing to be nominated," Ngobeni tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"Because it's a first time also I have been nominated since I started in the PSL. I'm very humbled by the nomination cause there are good players from Maritzburg also in the same category, so we will see what is going to happen. But I'm very humbled by the nomination.
"I think more than anything I can rather say ja it's a signal that when I play regularly I can always be a better player you know, given a chance. So I'm just hoping that from here there can be continuity."
Ngobeni says the protection he enjoyed from his Stars teammates contributed a lot to his performance.
"I can say it starts at training because we work very hard, I don't wanna lie, with the goalkeeper coach Moratta. So I think the hard work and most importantly the team, the players who are always in front of me, I think they helped me a lot. Because if you can check we only conceded three goals in the five games so I think it's not bad at all. So I think the players really played a big role in me being nominated."
Asked about his plans for next season seeing that he now has to go back to his parent club Sundowns, the keeper plans to assess his options with his business manager.
"I think obviously we have to sit down with my manager and try and plan the future. Let's see what is possible but obviously you know that I'm contracted to Sundowns so I have to honour that. But we'll see what is going to happen going forward. We will sit down, discuss, then see what is possible and what is also good for me in my career. It's only the beginning ngisazosebenza."
In March Downs activated the one-year option they had on Ngobeni's contract, but in January 2019 the 29-year-old will be within his rights to negotiate with any team of his choice.
