Sibusiso Vilakazi eyes Nedbank Cup reunion with Mamelodi Sundowns

Having first won this competition in his maiden PSL season at Bidvest Wits in 2010, Vilakazi has waited eight years for another opportunity to bag a second winners medal.

The 28-year-old forward, who joined the Brazilians at the start of last season in search of more success, has since added the CAF Super Cup to his collection, but is yearning for another piece of domestic silverware.

While it is widely known that Sundowns’ priorities lie on conquering the continent, the Bafana Bafana international is desperate to end their PSL trophy drought and believes going all the way in the Nedbank Cup would greatly benefit the team in the short-term.

However, Vilakazi admits it is still a huge task to get to the final, beginning with their quarterfinal encounter away to Cape Town City this Sunday.

“Definitely, winning the cup would be great for us as a team. Personally, I think it’s one that we’re looking at because, apart from the Super Cup, we haven’t won anything,” said ‘Vila’.

“This is the one that I would say is immediate [success], so I think it’s important for us to go all the way to the final and try to clinch it.

“It’s going to be very, very difficult, but to go all the way you have to defeat your opponents, and that starts now with Cape Town City. So, we’ll take it from there.”

The highly anticipated match is scheduled to kick-off at 15h00 at the Cape Town Stadium.
