Pirates suffered an uncharacter too much to bear istic first-round exit in the Nedbank Cup after bottling their penalty shootout for a sixth consecutive time in a packed Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
The electrifying atmosphere of 20 000-strong supporters was seemingly a little too much to bear for The Buccaneers. However, Sredojevic has taken some positive lessons from the experience as they turn their focus to their continental campaign, which is sure to serve up similar circumstances.
“It was a test of character and measurement of values of our players in an environment that was very hostile and not easy to play in, especially with regards to the player number twelve,” said 'Micho'.
“We unfortunately lost on penalties, but it was a blessing in disguise that we learnt a lesson on how to act and behave in such a hostile environment.
“So, we believe that we will use these lessons in the CAF Champions League and the Absa Premiership matches ahead of us.”
Pirates are set to host Tunisian giants and defending Champions League champions Esperance at Orlando Stadium this Saturday, before squaring off with rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby next weekend. They then travel to Tunis for their return-leg duties three days later.
