It might be a bit too early to tell, but Cape Town City’s new Ugandan winger Allan Kateregga could prove to be a great signing for the club. He came on for his first appearance for the Citizens and looked lively with some good runs and touches on the flank. The left footed player played mostly on the right.
Many a time this season, the man of the match award has left people wondering whether they watch the same games as the people who choose the best player on match day. Kaizer Chiefs’ Pule Ekstein won the award on Saturday after Amakhosi beat Baroka FC 1-0, but Siphiwe Tshabalala and Daniel Cardoso performed much better than the diminutive midfielder, as well as Baroka winger Talent Chawaphiwa.
It looked a big mistake to sell their top scorer Evans Rusike to SuperSport United halfway through the season, but Maritzburg United are doing pretty well without the lanky Zimbabwean marksman upfront. In fact, Andrea Fileccia is the man doing the job upfront for the Team of Choice, scoring seven goals in all competitions in 2018, including the winner against Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday.
Surprise Ralani, a man who had never played in the PSL until he joined Cape Town City in January, is finding his feet at the club and is showing what he can do on the flanks with his pace and skill. He kept Sundowns right back Thapelo Morena on his toes and did well to beat a couple of defenders before pulling one back for the hosts. It was not enough to inspire a come back, but Ralani will certainly surprise a lot of teams going forward.
Ubuntu Cape Town will be remembered for the brave fights they put up in this year’s competition, especially the one on Saturday as they went all the way to penalties against a Free State Stars side that has been exceptional this season. They have a bunch of players who never give up.
